CAPE TOWN

Chelsea Frost

Hey, I’m Chelsea Frost, a 31-year-old from the mother city who has been cycling for just over 2 years. You’ll mostly hear my enthusiastic banter before seeing the mischievous grin on my face.
What really makes cycling special for me, is that it allows you to explore great distances without leaving a heavy footprint on the environment and it carves out time to connect with yourself and those around you in a meaningful way. It feels like the ultimate escape from the complexities of everyday life.
I am hoping to use my efforts at Race to the Sea to raise funds and awareness for the kids of Kwano Academy in Plett, giving me even more reason to get over the finish line. I am not just doing it for me, I am doing it for all of them too.

Thandeka Mnisi Dithipe

Mrs. Thandeka Mnisi Dithipe (40) born in Mpumalanga Nelspruit and now residing in Pretoria. I’m a qualified accountant with over a decade of experience in project accounting in the public sector. I’m also deeply committed to supporting other women in their endeavours. I strongly believe in the power of women to effect a positive change in their communities.

As a woman, I strongly believe that I should not neglect my personal aspirations and always strive to live a balanced life through planning, prioritising, and compromising. My cycling journey started in April 2022, and I joined the Matsimela Ladies Clinics training program. By joining this group of excellent women, I’ve acquired cycling skills such as gear changing, group ride and bike control in a peloton, ascending and descending techniques, signalling, nutrition, and bike maintenance.

I’m looking forward to my cycling journey and I hope it’ll encourage other women to join.

Jessica Erasmus

Hi there! My name is Jessica Erasmus, and I’m thrilled to share a little bit about myself with you. 38 Years old, and a passionate entrepreneur, I am the proud owner of my own business, specialising in marketing and design. Currently, I have the exciting opportunity to handle the marketing for some of the Faces Events, including the highly anticipated King Price Race to the Sea.
While my professional life keeps me busy, I have recently embarked on a new personal journey. I’m determined to achieve my first 100-mile ride. This aspiration has inspired me to launch a campaign called “100 Miles to Your Milestone.” I believed there are other women out there who, like me, have dreams they want to achieve but may feel unsure about their abilities. Through this campaign, I aim to bring together a supportive community, enlist the help of PVM and Braven Performance, and keep each other accountable as we strive towards our dreams.
I’m excited to connect with other like-minded women and work together to make our dreams a reality. Let’s support and empower each other as we embark on this incredible journey. Together, we can achieve amazing things!

Izelle Cowley

Izelle Cowley is an adventurist and always game for a challenge. Love oudoors and spending time in nature. She is a qualified preschool teacher.
Traveling has always been part of her life. Photographing people and children in her spare time has been part of her life for many years.
My biggest goal toward the race to the sea is to inspire other women to participate in this event in the future and never say no to any other challenge that life my bring on your path.
One of my biggest achievements was to complete the cape cycle in 2008 with friends for fun. I lost 3 close family members last year which helped me realized that life is short and valuable and one should not take life for granted.
I am excited and nervous about the event but can’t wait to see how I will personally grow throughout the 12 weeks on a fitness level as well as my cycling journey.
Thank you for this excellent opportunity

Nakita Koch

My name’s Nakita Koch, I’m 35 years old, I live in Cape town and I’m a Marketing Manager for adidas. I’ve played competitive sport for most of my life, from WP Squash and first league Netball to representing South Africa at the 2006 Commonwealth games in Waterpolo. I really love sport!

My passion for cycling started in 2017 when I met my now Fiancé, Luc. I started Mountain biking with him and really enjoyed exploring new trails and doing races together. In 2020 I invested in my Specialized Diverge and was hoping to have the versatility of doing gravel and road racing. I’ve never done a gravel race before but have done plenty of road races. Race to the Sea will be my first Gravel race and I’m super excited about this challenge and look forward to a cold Devils Peak beer afterwards!

Kgafele Mahloana

My name is Kgafele, although some people call me Florence. I am 36 years old and reside in Fourways and work as a Supply Chain Manager. I am a mother to a five-year-old who is the main reason why I started cycling. I learned to ride a bicycle in 2019. My daughter was a frequent rider at the bike park and I desired to ride alongside her. I had never been on a bike before so I signed up for 3-5 adult “learn-to-ride” lessons. I bought my first bike in 2021 with the intention of taking my riding to a new level. It was only in 2022, after many lonely solo rides, and barely any improvement in my riding that I joined a community of women cyclists where my passion for cycling was established. I ride to uplift my mind and spirit, to build mental agility and physical endurance and to socialize with people from different socio-demographics. Most importantly, I ride to inspire other women to join the community. Cycling is my freedom.

Mpho Mfete

My name is Mpho Mfete. I live in the West of Johannesburg with my 6 yr old boy, Mokgethoa. I work in the Telecoms/Fintech space. I’m a Snr Project Manager.

I started cycling in the winter of 2021 and at the beginning of 2022 joined Matsimela Ladies Clinic. That is where my cycling solidified. The clinics provided not only cycling skills but also organized rides to put into practice the lessons learned. Also a community of riders.

Before cycling I wouldn’t say that I was really active, I belonged to a gym, like most people, and went enough times to keep my membership going(like a lot people😊). I did Bikram Yoga for a few years and really enjoyed that, but stopped doing that too.

My cycling journey thus far has comprised almost exclusively of road cycling(on my MTB, Masego). I have not done much off road cycling(except for 1 or 2 disastrous attempts) but I knew that I wanted to give it a real shot and this, RTTS, has provided the perfect opportunity for that.

CAPE TOWN

Mercia Theron.

Hey, I’m Mercia Theron. I am 34 and I live, work and cycle around Cape Town. During working hours I am a graphic designer, but over weekends I love exploring the back roads and mountains of the Cape. Growing up you could usually find me out hiking with the family or more likely out on a long endurance horse ride. I have been around bicycles on and off my whole life and was very lucky to have a grandfather who encouraged us to ride. Since then I have done a bit of mountain biking and more recently really gotten into gravel. It is such a great way to explore and cover longer distances and the community is amazing. My goal for the year has been to ride longer distances, so participating in Race to the Sea is a great opportunity.100 miles to my milestone, lets go!
